Applications of nanowires in sensor technology

Application of the nanowires is broad. So far, the nanowires have been used as building blocks for electronics, optics, mechanics, and sensing technology etc. Furthermore, they have been used for different purposes in diverse fields. For instance, they can be used as a master (mould) in nano-imprinting, and as a masking layer for dry etching (patterning transfer) into other materials. Also, they can be used as a template in a self-assembly technology. E.g., Au nanowires are used to assemble biological species.

As different materials in the form of nanowire have different new properties, thus opening up many new applications, the potential applications of nanowires is therefore unlimited. Table 2 highlights several unique applications of the nanowires for sensor technology, notably gas, biological, and chemical sensor.

Our focus

Currently we have focused on a development and manufacturing of several kinds of nanowire-based nanosensors such as:

  • Bio and chemical sensors for life sciences and health care (medical), security (warfare), and water control.
  • Gas sensors for the automotive, pollution control, safety and health.
